Safeguarding Adults adverts to all vulnerable adults who needs protection from any form of neglect and/or abuse. People and different organizations should work along side one another to assist the concerned adult/s who are involved or are in need of keeping safe and informed.
Who is to be assisted regarding Safeguarding Adults?
-Adults with support and care needs
-Adults who experience communication difficulties
-Adults at risk of or experiencing any form of abuse and neglect
-Adults with a disability or mental health illness
Types of abuse:
–Physical Abuse: when someone gets physically injured or harmed
–Psychological or Emotional Abuse: non-physical words or behaviours which affects the persons mental state and/or emotional well-being.
–Sexual Abuse: Non consensual or forced acts/ actions, can be in many forms.
–Domestic Abuse: also known to some as partner violence which includes other types of abuse (physical, sexual, financial manipulation, neglect)
–Financial Abuse: targeting an adult’s finance resources and can be done in a way of manipulation, theft or fraud
–Verbal Abuse: the effects do not leave a physical making this a difficult way of abuse to be proved without evidence, this may include threats, name-calling or being made felt small.
–Neglect: Failure to have your rights or needs met, whether it is a roof over your head, medical services or even just emotional support.
–Modern Slavery: Human Trafficking, any forced labour, or sexual exploitation
A Little Reminder:
Not everyone who is in need of being safeguarded is aware that they require the assistance.
Safeguarding adults is not only about the protection and assistance to those in need but also to amplify the well-being of people.
Just a note:
Doing an online CSTF – Safeguarding Adults Levels 1 & 2 Course or CSTF – Safeguarding adults Levels 3& 4 Course with Train Healthcare, which takes approximately 1 hour to complete, will earn you 1 CPD Point per course. Once you have completed the course/s, you would receive a certificate thereof.
